Weight Watcher is like a baseball game....

I'm here with my family tonight and had to step away from the TV for a bit. Game 3 of The World Series is on and our Dodgers aren't doing super de duper. It seems that game 3 is all Astro's. While I was watching the game, I kept seeing small errors. Nothing really that would make you want to quit the game all together, but they certainly frustrate the player. All of a sudden, I thought, hmmm. The game of baseball is a lot like #myforeverjourney. I've sure had my fair share of errors these last 30 months, but never have I wanted to hang up my hat and walk away. I've had my fair share of base hits (aka non scale victories) doubles, (aka compliments and self esteem boosters) triples, ( aka good losses at the scale and also maintaining now that I'm at lifetime) and yes, I even hit a home run once. ("hitting" lifetime status)

Sometimes, a runner (that'd be the weight watcher member) makes a bad decision and tries to get to the next base before really thinking about the consequences. Sometimes, the pitcher (or in my case, buttered popcorn) gets the better of you. What does a strong player do? They get up. Dust themselves off, go back to the dugout (or meeting room) where other teammates are there with open arms and understanding because guess what...they've made errors too! A good team works together. A good team mate helps each member of the team pay attention to the game with nothing in it for them, because when one member does well, the entire team wins.

As a team member (weight watcher member) it's important to keep our eyes on the ball (our goal) and overcome the obstacles (in baseball a 3-2 count and in weight watchers, an evening with perhaps 6 points available). You might strike out 3 times in a day. (Maybe your snacks today were peanuts and cracker jacks) but you can also hit a game winning home run on your fourth at bat, meaning dinner time was PERFECT! This happens all the time in life! And the days you hit it out of the park are the days you want to keep displayed on your trophy case.

Like any baseball player, if you maintain your concentrated effort, and believe in yourself, you win. But on a side note...I already think you're a winner!
PLAY BALL!

Excuse me? Not today.

ex·cuse
noun
plural noun: excuses

  1. 1.
a reason or explanation put forward to defend or justify a fault or offense.
"there can be no possible excuse for any further delay"
    synonyms:justificationdefensereasonexplanation, mitigating circumstances, mitigationvindication

I went grocery shopping the other day, and by grocery shopping, I mean I ran into Wal-Mart and bought bananas, cottage cheese, egg whites and sliced oven roasted turkey breast. Not really GROCERY shopping, but more like "this will get me through breakfast and lunch for the next 4 days before I have to go grocery shopping" sort of grocery shopping.
  2.
  3. I did a gigantic GULP when I realized cottage cheese (I'm a snob and only buy Viva) had gone up in price, and the great value brand of egg whites I had been buying, were not available, so I'd need to go with another brand, which also made the price higher. I honestly stood at the egg refrigerator contemplating on if I should buy the egg whites or not. #FACEPALM!

  4. It wasn't that long ago, that I would not have given a bag of almond joy pieces, puffy cheetos, and oreo cookies a second thought. Those 3 items right there could have easily cost me $10, right? And yet I had no problem spending THAT money. So why did I have a problem with my cottage cheese inflation or the egg white debate?

  5. I ended up buying them by the way, because this inner dialogue I'm putting here on the bloggy thing, was going on in my mind in the middle of the dairy section at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday night.

  6. Last summer we bought a new car. We have taken great care of that new car. Only the best oil,  gas, vacuumed regularly, etc. We put a lot of money into that car, so why would we want to just thrash it?

  7. I bet God thinks the same thing about our bodies. He put a lot of time, energy and love into our bodies and I bet he's thinking, "Why isn't she wanting to fuel her body with the very best?"

  8. I'm worth the investment. I've found that if it's important, I'll will find a way. If it isn't, I'll find an excuse.

We interrupt this internet surfing session for a NO FLUFF, special bulletin...

This just in! News flash! You will hit speed bumps along the way! We are all works in progress, which means that we will all make mistakes. Strive for progress, not perfection, right? Do you GET what it means to progress? It means to keep moving forward. It also means we learn from our failures, we stop with the guilt-trips, and for heck sakes, stop getting down with "yo bad self!"
Recently I read an article. For the sake of wanting to keep this a family friendly bloggy thing, I'll summarize it. Basically, this writer made a plan for those who get in a rut. I'll edit the name of his plan, and simply call it the "get the crap over it" plan. So... how does one enroll in such a plan? Easy.

"I ate like complete crap today!"
Get the crap over it!
Eat better tomorrow. Deal? Deal.

“Why am I so lazy? Why did I skip my workout this morning?”
Get the crap over it!
Go outside right now. Walk around the neighborhood, run a mile, do 30 push ups. GO!

“I have no willpower, because I couldn’t stop myself from eating those adorable trick-or- treat versions of a candy bars I already know what they taste like, because they're just ssoooo adorable!"
Sorry. Adorable is adorable if we're talking about a puppy, or chunky leg rolls on a 9 month old baby. Adorable isn't stuffing your face with candy that taste EXACTLY like the check stand version you can get 12 months out of the year.
Get the crap over it!
Throw them away. Spray household chemicals on them. Now you’re not tempted anymore. Moving on.
Here’s the truth: One bad meal, won't make you overweight. One missed workout won't make you less of an athlete. Sadly, the same goes for eating one healthy meal and having one great workout. Fitness and health does not happen overnight. One day of overeating cannot undo weeks, months, even years of hard work. HOWEVER, that one bad meal or one missed workout can mentally undo weeks of hard work, if you LET IT.
Get the crap over it!

When you skip one workout, the next workout quickly becomes the most important workout of your life. One bad meal? The next one will be one of your best! Are you picking up what I'm putting down? You snackin' what I'm packin'? No excuses. Get the crap over it. If you haven't found yourself in the obituaries, you still have time – Time to make it, no... time to make YOU- a priority!
